Noise measurements - sound level surveys

Based in the Lyon region, in the Rhône department (France, Auvergne Rhone Alpes region), the company ITS can carry out noise measurements - sound level surveys, without distance limitation (including abroad), in the context of preventing noise pollution, or quantifying the effectiveness of soundproofing actions.

ITS has :

  • a human resource qualified in Physical Measurements - Instrumental Techniques, with extensive experience in acoustic measurements (laboratory and field)
  • four sound level meters allowing the simultaneous collection of acoustic pressure samples at locations of interest, with processing of the recordings and analysis of the results using a computer equipped with special software; this hardware is subject to periodic checks and calibrations by its manufacturer (ITS has his own pistonphone for internal calibrations)
  • a noise generator with dodecahedral loudspeakers (ominidirectional source) and a hemispherical noise source
  • an ISO 9001 certification covering its engineering & software publishing activity

The occasions for using ITS for noise measurements - sound level surveys are numerous and varied e.g. for the following assessments:

  • sound pressure level (or variation of the sound pressure level) at specified locations
  • sound power level of a source (or variation of the sound power level of a source)
  • sound insulation from airborne noise between two spaces (including for external noise)
  • decrease in sound level by doubling the distance
  • reverberation time of a room

For ITS, theatres of operation are, depending on the case, the building sector, the industrial sector or the environment..

The noise control and/or acoustic comfort improvement actions before or after which the noise measurements - sound level surveys proposed by ITS can be carried out are mainly:

  • the enclosure of machines and the soundproofing of noisy equipment
  • the implementation of vertical (walls, partitions) or horizontal (roofs, floors, ceilings) acoustic insulation elements of building envelopes (partitions, door frames, chassis), including the construction of complete soundproofed buildings
  • the installation of acoustic screens and noise barrier walls
  • the implementation of silencers for ventilation networks or pressurized fluid networks
  • the installation of sound-absorbing linings inside premises
  • the construction of test benches (including acoustic measurement rooms, either reverberant or anechoic)

Day or night, inside buildings or outdoors, ITS can intervene for noise measurements - sound level surveys, and compare the results of its measurements with reference values (regulatory texts e.g. ministerial orders, standards, technical specifications) while providing opinions and recommendations (with formulation of contextualized avenues for improvement) to upgrade, where appropriate, the acoustic situation observed.

This is not the least of the advantages of commissioning ITS for noise measurements - sonometric surveys when acoustic metrology is not an end for this company but a means: that of solving all the problems inherent in the existence of excessive sound levels or resulting from poor acoustic quality in premises, if necessary by using predictive acoustics software (generally: developed by its human resource) for the sizing of soundproofing equipment chosen among the ranges of the best manufacturers or developed according to the specific needs of each project, with guaranteed efficiency.
