In many plants of the chemical industry, blowing superheated steam (e.g. in relation to boiler operation) into the atmosphere is a very powerful noise source potentially causing sound nuisance for personnel of the operator operating in the vicinity as well as for the neighborhood (including long distance, a fortiori in case of vents installed at high elevation e.g. on building roofs).

It is often necessary to use in such cases a soundproofing equipment of high technology (silencers) to ensure compliance of the installation on the one hand with respect to the legislation on noise at work and on the other hand with respect to the regulation in terms of environmental protection. In fact blow-off silencers must have high acoustic performance (the overall sound power level to consider is often greater than 145 dBA and noise emissions are covering a large frequency range, what imposes specific specific soundproofing devices) in a context where high temperatures (around 450 °C or sometimes more) and high gas flow rates must be considered: great care must be taken when sizing such industrial soundproofing devices which must make it possible to reduce noise without disturbing the operation of the facilty, for what the total pressure loss of the silencer is essential.

ITS will participate in the replacement of silencers for 3 boilers in a refinery in Algeria in the context of retrofit works.

Combining a stage (upstream) allowing the expansion of the pressurized fluid, based on the use of perforated elements and a dissipative (downstream) stage, i.e. whose acoustic performance is linked to the use of sound-absorbing materials between which circulates the depressurized fluid, the silencers will be installed downstream of valves upstream of which superheated steam will have a pressure of 70 bar and a temperature of 500 °C. The sizing and the manufacturing of the silencers will be performed according to the highest construction and quality standards in order to allow the delivery of soundprofing equipments (silencers) of which the expected longevity has been a reason why choosing equipment offered by ITS.
