In a test bench, a depressurization device outlet is a very powerful noise source potentially causing sound nuisance for personnel of the operator operating in the vicinity as well as for the neighborhood (including sometimes long distance). It is often necessary to use in such cases a soundproofing equipment of high technology to ensure compliance of the installation on the one hand with respect to the legislation on noise at work and on the other hand with respect to the regulation in terms of environmental protection.

In fact silencers for depressurization devices outlets must often have high acoustic performance (the overall sound power level to consider is often greater than 150 dBA and noise emissions spectrum is wide, involving specific soundproofing capacities) in a context where often low or high temperatures and sometimes very high gas flow rates must be considered, whereas inlet pressure is always high when compared to atmospheric pressure: great care must be taken when sizing such silencers.

ITS will participate in the construction of 2 silencers for depressurization devices outlets for a test bench near Paris, in the region Ile de France (France).

This silencers must have a sound transmission loss particularly important and the flow speed of gas into the silencers will be extremely high, requiring a specific design of the silencer in particular with respect to issues related to aerodynamics and to self-noise.

Therefore, the simulation of the insertion loss (with or without flow noise) as well as of the total pressure loss of the silencer in the foreseen operation conditions will be a key step of the project.

As is often the case in such situations, the noise attenuation device will include:

  • an upstream part, made up of perforated metal plates, from which it is expected that they achieve a depressurization of the gas (the flow then being at most with sonic speed)
  • a downstream part, with a sound-absorbing lining (e.g. based on mineral fibers, to be protected against erosion by a layer of thickness and of nature being variable depending on the context e.g. depending on the nature and speed of the fluid, of its temperature)

Of course, the sizing of the internal parts of silencers for decompression vents requires special know-how, benefiting from the experience acquired, on a long-term basis, on the occasion of succesfully realized projects (the marketing of silencers for pressurized fluids has always been an activity of ITS).

Materials used for the construction of which properties must satisfy both the ambitious goals of acoustic performance and also to requirements related to mechanical and thermal extreme solicitations will be incorporated into the design as required for those silencers for the depressurization devices outlets for a test bench. The manufacturing will be performed according to the highest construction and quality standards in order to allow the delivery of industrial soundproofing equipment of which the expected longevity has been a reason why choosing equipment offered by ITS.
