Isolation Technologie Services (ITS) can be called upon in the context of soundproofing studies and works aiming at ensuring the acoustic compliance of a building or of a facility.

The main applications are carried out in various contexts :

  • noise reduction in the workplace; the acoustic compliance justifying the commitment of actions in terms of soundproofing often has to do with [1] :
    • European Directive 2003/10/CE of the European Parliament and of the Council of February 6, 2003 concerning the minimum health and safety requirements relating to the exposure of workers to risks due to physical agents (noise) :
      • in terms of daily noise exposure level L EX, 8h: 80 dB (A) and 85 dB (A) are the thresholds, respectively lower and upper, triggering the action; 87 dB (A) is the authorized limit value
      • in terms of peak sound pressure ρpeak: 112 Pa i.e. 135 dB (C) and 140 Pa i.e. 137 dB (C) are the thresholds, respectively lower and upper, triggering the action; 200 Pa i.e. 140 dB (C) is the authorized limit value
    • (in France) the decree of August 30, 1990 issued for the application of article R. 235-11 of the labor code and relating to the reverberation control of work premises :
      • in terms of sound level decrease by doubling the distance from the source: when measured in a room empty of any machine or production facility 2 dB (A) - for a floor area equal to at most 210 m2 - to 4 dB (A) - for a floor area of 4600 m2 or more -; when measured after installation of production machinery and equipment 3 dB (A) - for a floor area not exceeding 210 m2 - to 4 dB (A) - for a floor area of 1000 m2 or more
  • protection of the noise environment; acoustic compliance requiring soundproofing work often has to do with [1]:
    • (in France) article R. 1336-7 of the public health code :
      • in terms of emergence linked to the difference, at a specified location - in a Zone with Regulated Emergence (ZRE) - between the sound pressure levels measured respectively during operation and during shutdown of the facilities being concerned (the night situation being almost always - all other things being equal as to the operating conditions - more problematic than that observable during the day: the admissible emergence varies from 3 dB (A) to 6 dB (A) depending on the schedule, but also according to the day of the week and according to the ambient noise value
    • (in France) a prefectural decree e.g. 60 dB (A) at the property line
  • for the construction or upgrading of acoustic measurement rooms intended for R&D work; the acoustic compliance targeted by the implementation of soundproofing equipment then often has to do with :
    • the standard ISO 3744 Acoustics - Determination of sound power levels and sound energy levels of noise sources using sound pressure - Engineering methods for an essentially free field over a reflecting plane
    • the standard ISO 3745 Acoustics - Determination of sound power levels and sound energy levels of noise sources using sound pressure - Precision methods for anechoic rooms and hemi-anechoic rooms
  • for acoustic comfort in buildings, for premises with particular challenges (e.g. nurseries, catering rooms, open-space offices and other workspaces); the expected acoustic compliance of the implementation of soundproofing means often has to do with :
    • the decrees of 25 April 2003 relating to the limitation of noise in educational establishments, in health establishments, in hotels
    • the standard NF P 90-207 - Sports halls - Acoustics
    • the standard NF S 31-080 Acoustics - Offices and associated spaces - Levels and criteria of acoustic performance by type of space
      • in terms of reverberation time, depending on the volume and destination of the room considered and depending on the frequency: from a fraction of one second, to a little over one second

In relation to acoustic compliance (with respect to design briefs, specifications, regulations), ITS offers all corresponding or related services and products e.g. in terms of soundproofing :

  • studies and engineering (e.g. on-site audit/diagnosis with measurements, analysis of acoustic compliance, definition of soundproofing needs, sizing)
  • marketing of soundproofing equipment and sound insulation works

This is applicable to any soundproofing hardware :

  • what concerns the implementation of acoustic partitions to limit noise propagation (e.g. carterizations, casings, enclosures, partitions, noise barriers, buildings with high acoustic insulation)
  • sound-absorbing coverings (e.g. wall panels, ceilings and other suspended sound-absorbing elements)
  • silencers to limit the sound impact of aeraulic networks - not only in the context of Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) - and pressurized fluids

The soundproofing solutions offered by ITS for acoustic compliance can be accompanied by a guarantee of results :

  • sound power level or sound pressure level at specified locations; in absolute or relative value (i.e. in terms of decrease)
  • reverberation time
  • spatial sound decay rate

A single point of contact from start to finish of an acoustic compliance approach requiring soundproofing actions: that’s the best and that’s what ITS offers.

[1] not only in the energy production sector, but also in all other industrial sectors or in tertiary sector: the human resource of ITS has extensive experience in solving all acoustic compliance issues requiring a soundproofing
