Mobile communication (i.e. communication network that does not involve cable or wire connection between two entities) is a field of activity involving high advanced technologies requiring specific facilities, availbale from industrial soundproofing specialists, appropriate to the conduction of Research & Development testing in acoustics often under conditions of free acoustic field, requiring an environment with specific characteristics in terms of anechoicity.

It is in fact a matter of ensuring that in a closed space (which is required if only to be able to carry out a metrology not being influenced by atmospheric conditions), free acoustic field conditions, such as usually observable outdoors when there is no limit to the propagation of acoustic waves (it is, moreover, necessary to have a sufficiently quiet measurement environment i.e. being protected from ambient noise, all the more when it comes to the acoustic characterization of low sound power sources).

ITS will participate in the construction of an anechoic room for the conduction of acoustic testing in a context of mobile communication R&D in the area of Cannes (France, region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Alpes Maritimes county).

Low frequency of interest considered for the project is 100 Hz (frequency above which the room shall be in conformity with ISO 3745 within a measurement volume defined by users). The facility will include an external envelope with a high airborne sound insulation and equipped with a vibration decoupling device to limit the transmission of structure born sound (allowing to get a background noise level sufficiently low in the testing room). An absorbing lining will be installed on the 4 vertical faces of the envelope, as well as below the roof and on the floor (a special floor will be foreseen). Specific materials and construction systems to meet ambitious and varied targets in terms of technical performance will be integrated into the design as required. In particular, recourse will be made to a special technology allowing to get maximum acoustic performance together with a minimum depth, what is requested due to the limited space of the location foreseen for this mobile acoustic laboratory.

Related features such as disassembly of the whole and of subsets, access for personal and material, lighting, ... will be integrated according to the needs for this anechoic room.

No doubt: the technicians and engineers in R&D that will use this acoustic testing room will appreciate its excellent technical qualities and its ability to be moved to be relocated elsewhere if needed.
