Like many other premises, canteens are spaces of everyday life in which the reverberation should be limited to control ambient sound levels, for the well being of occupants that are both users and service staff. It is often necessary to use in such cases special equipment in terms of architectural acoustics to ensure the habitability requirements for those spaces to which are applicable specific comfort criteria related to noise limitation (acoustical treatment).

ITS will participate in the acoustical treatment of a company restaurant by selling sound-absorbing claustras near Rouen (France, Haute-Normandie region, Seine Maritime county).

Given the annoyance felt by the occupants that led to consider soundproofing works, a reduction of the reverberation time has made necessary the installation of products and construction systems having acoustic performance namely for medium and high frequencies, as often in the context of sound insulation in buildings.

Were therefore considered when sizing soundproofing equipment (acoustical treatment) for this company restaurant:

  • acoustical screens made of a high density made of a high density mineral wool and of a suitable surfacing (fabric) allowing acleaning with a wet cloth (tailor made, with base)

These sound-absorbing claustras were chosen from the range marketed by ITS [1], combining acoustic performance - the weighted acoustic absorption index of the lining αw reached = 1.00 (acoustic absorption class A) - and aesthetic (no less than 13 colors to choose from ): this equipment always has its place, when it comes to improving the acoustic comfort of premises such as dining rooms, open-plan offices, public reception areas.

In addition to their properties in terms of sound absorption (as mentioned above, such as to contribute to the limitation of the reverberation of the space considered), these sound-absorbing claustras shall make it possible to limit the noise propagation (what spatial sound decay measurements could illustrate), which is very appreciable in a company restaurant, since it allows:

  • discretion (this is the situation obtained when an effort is required to understand the content of a conversation sent from a neighboring table)
  • confidentiality (this is the situation obtained when, even with an effort to understand a conversation sent from a neighboring table, it remains incomprehensible)
  • the non-increase in ambient sound levels (a speaker who wishes to be heard at a table does not need to raise his voice, not being hampered by the conversations of neighboring tables - the opposite would be counterproductive, if everyone did the same)

No doubt that the implementation of those sound-absorbing claustras will improve the acoustic comfort of the canteen and will participate in its decoration.

[1] made in France, the high sound absorption claustras marketed by ITS are the subject of a careful design and craftsmanship, based on carefully selected materials to meet the requirements in relation to their use.
