A Selective Catalytic Reduction (SRC) device or a catalytic converter is often associated with a muffler in a reciprocating internal combustion engine (heat engine) exhaust line, particularly if it comes to a power plant with a high capacity, therefore with significant fumes flow rates.
In some cases, it comes to the inserton of a cartridge, requiring for the silencer a removable part, to allow its possible replacement.
In other cases, the catalyst is dissociated, constituting an independent subset.
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is a technique for treating exhaust gases i.e. with combustion products such as coal, oil, gas.
It mainly involves reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, typically at a concentration of less than 250 mg / Nm3, by performing a chemical transformation (oxidation-reduction) towards compounds such as nitrogen (N2) and water (H2O).
A catalytic converter limits the release to the atmosphere of toxic elements such as hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide (CO), typically at a concentration of less than 650 mg / Nm3, and nitrogen oxides by means of a specific chemical reaction.
